HIGHLIGHTS

On this trip, participants can look forward to many opportunities to capture images of indigenous wildlife like the proboscis monkey, orangutans and pygmy elephants just to name a few, including witnessing baby turtles release, on Pulau Libaran Turtle Hatchery. In addition, you will also be able to enjoy 1st hand nature experience through the eyes of Alexander Yee, a passionate conservationist and a trained Honorary Wildlife Warden, who have been featured in Discovery Channel Borneo and On the Red Dot television documentaries.

Nature and Wildlife Expedition to Borneo

Day 1: SINGAPORE - SANDAKAN VIA KUALA LUMPUR (Dinner)

Upon arrival in Sandakan Airport, meet and transfer to Sandakan Yacht club for our private boat transfer (Approx 45mins) to Libaran. Libaran Island is lies on the north of Sandakan and next to the Turtle Island Marine Park of Seligan, Gulisan and Bankugan Kecil. It is approximately 650 acres in size with 450 villagers living on the island. Their main livelihood is fishing as well as boat and net making. After check in, we will explore the village on foot to do some street photography.

Dinner will be served at the camp site. We will wait for the ranger call for Turtle sighting **.

** Even though record shows turtles come to Libaran island consistently, the sighting is still NOT GUARANTEE. ** If time permit, we will attempt to do some astrophotography.

Day 2: SANDAKAN > KINBATAGAN (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
After breakfast, we will check out and head back to Sandakan on a private boat. Our first stop will be Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre. The site is 43 sq km of protected land at the edge of Kabili Sepilok Forest Reserve. Today around 60 to 80 orangutans are living free in the reserve. Do get your tele lens ready to capture a shot of the mighty orangutans as they will be out for feeding at about 10am.

After lunch, we will proceed to Labuk Bay where we will visit the Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary. Borneo is only place in the world where Proboscis monkeys occur and they are not even found throughout all of Borneo. Here, you have an opportunity to them up close from one of the observation spots around the sanctuary. We will be staying here longer till you get your perfect shot of the Proboscis Monkey!

This evening, we will be doing a night walk accompanied by the lodge's naturalist. Enjoy an evening adventure along the boardwalk around the lodge. There will be lots of opportunities to spot some of the area's nocturnal wildlife, including snakes, birds and insects.

Dinner will be served at the lodge.

Day 3: KINABATAGAN (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
We will start very early today for a morning river cruise (private boat) on Kinabatagan River. The Kinabatagan River is Sabah’s longest river and is also one of the most exiting and accessible places to explore the rich biodiversity of Sabah, Borneo. The river offers an incredible opportunity to see large range if wildlife including Borneo’s unique Proboscis Monkey, the Orang Utan, Bornean Pygmy Elephant, crocodiles, otters and countless rare and beautiful birds. All the eight species of hornbill found in Borneo make the area their home.

After the river cruise, we will take a walk along the river to hunt for more wildlife before we return to the lodge to get some rest before lunch is served. You will have some leisure time to walk by the river again after lunch or take a rest before we join in another afternoon river cruise to sight more wildlife as they are most active before sunset. Your nature guide will also be here to help us with the information of each sighting.

After dinner, we will be doing another night trekking to spot sleeping birds and nocturnal creatures of the jungle for night photography today.

Day 4: KINABATAGAN > SANDAKAN (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
Another early morning! Get ready for the last last opportunity to capture your perfect wildlife shots along Kinabatangan River. After lunch, we bid farewell to the Nature lodge staff and arrive at the Four Points by Sheraton in the late afternoon. Thereafter, transfer to Pasir Putih Baru Seafood Restaurant for our farewell dinner!

Day 5: SANDAKAN > SINGAPORE VIA KUALA LUMPUR (Breakfast & Lunch)
After breakfast, check out and proceed to visit Sim Sim Water Village, a water village on stilts on the coast of Sandakan reachable by plank walkways, depicts lives of some of the local fisherman families in neat wooden houses and their daily activities. This is also the site of the original town of Sandakan which began in 1879. We will do some street photography before heading to Empire Seafood Restaurant for lunch.

Transfer to Sandakan Airport for our onward flight after lunch.

Join me on this group photography journey to the heart of Borneo rainforest in Sandakan., the second largest city in Sabah. Sandakan is the gate-way for eco-adventures as it's the home to some of the world’s most diverse rain forests and Southeast Asia’s last intact forests. Though it lacks the cosmopolitan vibes of Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan excites with its relaxed rustic charms. On this trip, participants can look forward to many opportunities to capture images of indigenous wildlife like the proboscis monkey, orangutans and pygmy elephants just to name a few, including witnessing baby turtles release, on Pulau Libaran Turtle Hatchery. Jensen will work with all the participants to help develop his or her photographic eyes. In addition, participants will also be able to enjoy 1st hand nature experience through the eyes of Alexander Yee, a passionate conservationist and a trained Honorary Wildlife Warden, who have been featured in Discovery Channel Borneo and On the Red Dot television documentaries. An avid nature lover himself, Jensen has garnered a wealth of experience in macro, nature and travel photography. He has captured a multitude of life's memorable moments and several of his work have been mentioned in National Geographic and Editor's Pick in Smithsonian Photo Contest. Having grown up during the days of films and manual cameras shaped his personal philosophy that photography is about honest imaging and being faithful to real life with minimal digital enhancement.
